THE Chilterns Conservation Board has slammed Government plans to run a high-speed rail line through Amersham, Chalfont St Giles and the Misbourne Valley.
A proposed route for the London to Birmingham line was released today (11/3) and will travel through the very heart of the Chilterns.
And the environmental group has said it will cause "irreversible damage" to the area and the many areas deemed Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

AFTER three months without a town centre Post Office following its shock closure, the Chesham branch reopened its doors to the relief and joy of residents.
The facility in The Broadway relaunched under new management following a battle by its users. It unexpectedly shut without notice on November 13.
Customers faced long queues at the Great Hivings branch in Greenway Parade branch during the Christmas period, and others from the town who were forced to travel to the Amersham branch during the worst snowy and icy conditions the country has faced for 30 years.

HISTORIC Chesham Building Society has become the latest victim of the recession after it agreed a merger with Skipton and end 165 years of independence this week.
The society, which has its head office in Chesham and is the oldest surviving building society in the UK after being founded in 1845, announced the merger on Wednesday (24/2).

Makeovers for charity

EYEBROWS across Chilterns are set for a charitable makeover in an effort to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.
The Lemon Rooms beauty salon, in The Broadway, Chesham, are opening their doors on February 18, to put on a mass eyebrow threading session to residents.
Treatments will be free of charge but with each visitor encouraged to make a discretionary donation to the cancer charity.

PARENTS, governors and school staff have pleaded 'don't kill our kids' as speed limit on a road close to three schools could be increased.
Buckinghamshire County Council set to decide whether to put the speed limit back up to 40mph in Amersham Road (the A416), Chesham Bois, to the fury of those worried about the safety of children using the route.
It was reduced to 30mph in 2006 as part of the county council's ongoing speed limit review.
