Town could lose another pub to housing

A TOWN could be set to lose another pub to housing after a planning application has been submitted to the council.

Chiltern District Council received a planning application this week from Bramwood Taverns, which owns The Nash Arms, in The Vale, Chesham, to turn the pub into five terraced houses.

Neighbours, councillors and a campaign group have all vowed to fight the proposal and are urging readers to write to the council against the application to stop another pub closing in the town.

Other pubs in the town that have been targeted by developers recently include the Elephant and Castle in Waterside, which has been given permission to become six flats, The Cock Tavern in The Broadway which is to become flats and an office, The King's Arm in which has become a house and a developer is currently appealing against the decision to now allow The Rose and Crown, in Waterside, into six flats.

For more information or to write to the council about the application visit www.chiltern.gov.uk/viewplanningapplications and use reference CH/2012/1977/FA.
More information and reaction will be in this Thursday's Examiner.

Hi, I wonder if you have ever visited The Nash ? If not please pop in and meet the friendly staff and customers who feel that there is a future for this pub and maybe we can win you over to our cause.

Please do not get me wrong Mr Martin as I was just pointing out the reality of the situation. There is really nothing I would like better than to see the local pub, the village shop and the post office stay with us. Perhaps if the staff and customers feel there is a future for the pub maybe you should buy it which would be great!
