Chesham is the coldest place in the UK again

CHESHAM was once again the coldest place in the UK when temperatures plummeted to a teeth chattering -11C this morning.

The town recorded a temperature of -11C at 5am this morning (Feb 3) with forecasters expecting a maximum of 2C across the UK during the day.

The famed cold spot was also the coldest place in the UK when temperatures dropped to an eye-watering -19.6C in December 2010.

The Met Office explained there are two major factors that contribute to Chesham being a renowned cold spot.

Helen Chivers said: "It's a cold spot because it's on the Chiltern hills and also because it's in a valley, they are the two contributing factors. Because it's high on the hill and in a sheltered spot you get cold pockets in the air settling over the town."
