Iain Rennie launch 2010 Goodnight Walk
IAIN Rennie Hospice at Home have unveiled the date for their biggest fundraising event of the year and hope to eclipse the £100,000 it raised in 2009.
The Goodnight Walk will be held in Amersham on Saturday, June 19 with anyone hoping to dress up in Mardis Gras theme and take part in the 11-mile route around the town setting off at midnight.
Last year the sponsored walk, supported by the Examiner, saw a sea of 750 walkers take to the course but the charity are hoping to recruit 1,000 women this year with limited places for 1,000 men.
Ruth Barber, IRHH community fundraiser manager, said: "Last year was so much fun and the atmosphere was electric! We were thrilled to see so many people there and many made the extra effort to dress up and accessorize their t-shirts.
"This year we are introducing a theme for the evening, Mardi Gras, so grab your grass skirts, garlands, beads, glitz and glamour and come and join the fun! There will be a prize for the best dressed walker, so come on, do your worst."
The charity is set to celebrate 25 years working in the community offer nursing care and support to families and people coping with terminal illness.
With costs increasing to more than £3m in 2010 and only 12 per cent of funding coming from Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), the charity rely heavily on their fundraising activities.
Miss Barber added: "People can make a difference to local residents who need our support by signing up now to be part of our 2010 Goodnight Walk challenge.
"They can enjoy the benefits that walking brings whilst training for the event, have a great evening and be one of those that can celebrate Walking the Distance."
The event costs £15 to enter which includes a fabulous Goodnight Walk t-shirt, snacks along the route, medal on completion and a well-earned breakfast.
