Beacon boys give to Haiti appeal
BOYS from The Beacon School are aiming to raise £2,000 for the victims of the Haitian earthquake by filling empty sweet packets with cash.
Pupils in Years Three to Five at the school, in Amersham Road, Chesham Bois, took home empty packs of Smarties and raided their piggy banks to gather vital funds.
Family and friends have helped out too and so far have raised more than £1,000 for the Disaster Emergency Fund after hundreds of thousands of people were killed when a devastating earthquake hit the poor Caribbean country.
Paul Brewster, headmaster, said: "I am delighted that the boys have been finding practical and personal ways in which they can help the victims of the Haitian earthquake.
"We believe that services to others, especially those in need, is incredibly important."
Boys in Year Seven and Eight have donated up to 50 per cent of their pocket money while boys in Year Six decided to give their pocket money to Water Aid to help supply clean water to the many victims who have been left homeless by the disaster.
The school hope by the end of their collections they will have raised £2,000.
