2010 Community Awards launched
CHESHAM is preparing to honour the outstanding achievements of its residents by launching the 2010 Mayoral Awards.
The annual event recognises individual, groups, and businesses who have made a significant difference to the town's community with the winners announced at the annual town meeting in May.
Sponsored by the Bucks Examiner, they consist of four categories; The People's Award, The Rafe Chile's Young Person's Award and The Business Award and residents can nominated people they feel are worthy of an award.
Winners of The People's Award and Young Person's Award will receive £150 while the winner of The Business Award will receive a specially engraved trophy.
Last year saw Michael Rowan, chairman of The Friends of Lowndes Park win The People's Award for his work in securing Green Flag status for the park.
Four young Chesham High School pupils Isabelle Jarvis, Chris Morris, Andrew Parker, and Kate Richards, all 18, won the Rafe Chiles Young Person's Award - named after a young musician and entrepreneur from the town who died five years ago.
They were recognised for their work on the Silver Surfers project which helps to IT skills to senior citizens in the town.
The Business Award went to Newtown Garage for their community work which has included sponsorship of the Victorian Evening and Chesham Carnival while also providing prizes for local fetes and fairs.
The closing date for nominations is Wednesday, March 31. Forms are available from the town hall or can be downloaded from www.chesham.gov.uk.
