Public set to have say on proposed housing
THE PUBLIC is set to be asked for its views on controversial plans to build almost 3,000 homes in the Chiltern District - including 650 in Chesham.
Householders should have their say on a 'Draft Core Strategy document', which addresses government demands for extra housing in the south east, a Chiltern District Council committee is due to recommend to its Cabinet.
The imposed targets require CDC to find sites for 2,900 new homes to be built in the district by 2026.
Changes to the allocation of house numbers have been made since the draft report was released last June with Chesham having a reduction of 100 on its proposed target.
Land at the former Chesham Hospital in Hospital Hill is set to have a proposed 55 dwellings, while land at Amersham and Wycombe College's campus in Lycrome Road has been earmarked for 57 new homes in a move which has caused widespread concern.
Trevor Pilling, chairman of The Chesham Society - a group which campaigns to protect the character of the town - said: "We don't see why in principle they want to cram more and more people into the area while they are reducing services."
Flooding and increased traffic problems could result from extra housing, he said, and he criticised the naming of Amersham and Wycombe College's campus as a possible site due to it being Green Belt land. Mr Pilling added: "Anything which erodes the Green Belt is dangerous. Once you start eroding the Green Belt, there's no stopping it anywhere else."
The group was looking into the possibility of suggesting other possible sites to Chiltern District Council, he added.
Amersham has a target of 600 including 100 homes already built and 140 dwellings having received planning permission.
In the villages, where development is set to be more spread out, an outstanding 78 homes are needed for Chalfont St Giles by 2026, with Great Missenden, Prestwood and Heath End having an extra 84 planned between them. Holmer Green is set to have another 61 and Chesham Bois an additional 36.
Around a third of the houses proposed for the twenty-year period the plan accounts for, have already been built or have planning permission in place.
The issue is set to be discussed by Chiltern District Council's Cabinet on Tuesday.

Libore planners won't be satisfied until ever blade of grass and piece of scenery is concreted over in the 'soft' South - stuffed with flats filled with millions of Libore supporting asylum seekers/foreign criminals/dole grasping single mums etc. Chesham District must fight these plans which will ruin local quality of life and overwhelm services for thousands of people.
