Lost swan guided home
A PAIR of animal lovers helped re-unite a lost swan with her mate in Chesham at the weekend after it had wandered into the town.
Nigel and Diane Childs were crossing Whitehill at 10.30am on Sunday morning (3/1) when they saw a swan which had mistaken the icy road for the water of her pond in Lowndes Park.
The pair shepherded the bird away from traffic and grabbed a loaf of bread from Waitrose and began leading her back to the park.
Mrs Childs said: "I went in front with the bag of bread, and Nigel alongside her, together we made slow but steady progress.
"After about 40 minutes, with several stops to preen her feathers, and stopping traffic at the crossing, we reached the pond.
"On seeing her mate in the small pool of water, the rest remaining frozen, she jumped in to join him. We fed them both the remaining bread, happy that they were reunited."

Aaaawwwwh! What a nice tale. I carefully shepherded some escaped young sheep back into a Chesham field recently. I was thanked by a farmhand and then informed they were going for slaughter that very day !!
