'Don't make it easy' says top cop

'LOCK up your cars' was the message from the head of Chilterns police this week after expensive goods were stolen in a spate of thefts in Chalfont St Giles and Chesham so far in 2010.
Chief Inspector Ian Hunter has seen a three week spree of incidents with Sat-Navs, Ipods and laptops stolen from cars which had been unlocked or with expensive items on display.

Up to 12 thefts from vehicles were reported in Chalfont St Giles while a number of incidents in Cameron Road, Chesham, were also called into police.
As a result, more officers have been delpoyed to both areas to crack the problem but Mr Hunter said residents can do their bit to lower the rates of these crimes.
"The message is simple; do not make it easy for the criminals," he said. "Many of these vehicles have been unlocked and we have made targeting the issue a priority for my team.
"People should lock their cars and keep their valuables out of sight and then will help lower the risk of them becoming victims.
"A lot of these criminals are opportunistists who travel into the area looking for unlocked cars."
Police have arrested and bailed four people in connection with a number of the car thefts after items of stolen property were recovered after a search.
All have been bailed pending further enquiries.
