Council deploy pothole repair 'gangs'
BUCKS County Council have deployed a team of 'road repair gangs' to repair the hundreds of potholes left in the county after the cold festive weather.
A total of 15 gangs will be able to fix 25-30 potholes a day amounting to 2,000 a week using permanent materials to avoid them becoming damaged again the council said this week.
It will cost £45,000 a week to keep them operational with the situation to be reviewed after three weeks.
Val Letheren, BCC cabinet member for transportation, said: "Unfortunatley for us and motorists, the conditions we've had are perfect for creating potholes - it has been a cycle of freeze, thaw, freeze.
"We know we have problem with potholes, but we have taken action to resolve this. The good news is we are doing as much as we can, and drafting in extra gangs to carry out repairs will be a huge help.
"The bad news is that there seems to be no respite with the weather. More freezing conditions, hoar frosts and snow are being predicted."
