Chesham fashion challenge launched

Posted by Greg Burns on Jan 15, 10 09:43 AM in People

A FASHION challenge has been launched in Chesham to help spread the Fairtrade message in the town.
Chesham4Fairtade will be inviting winners to showcase their designs at a special Fairtrade Fashion Show at The Elgiva in March which will also include reading of winning poems in the Fairtrade Poetry Competition.

Organiser and joint manager of Chesham Oxfam said: "Although there are a few companies specialising in using Fairtrade fabrics and now some high street chains are using Fairtrade cotton and other fabrics for selected garments, many people still have the idea that ethical fashion is just for tree-hugging hippies."
Rev Colin Cartwright, chair of Chesham4Fairtrade said, "'This is an exciting initiative. As we begin the year which marks five years of Chesham being a Fairtrade town, my hope is that we will make the next ten years a Fairtrade decade.
"This will come about if even more people decide to buy more Fairtrade products, so farmers and workers are not locked into poverty, but have the chance for a more secure future for themselves and their families."
The closing date for entries is 29th January. For further details and to download an entry form, visit www.chesham4fairtrade.co.uk.
