Anger over living conditions

Posted by Greg Burns on Jan 20, 10 12:18 PM in People

A FAMILY of six have hit out at their housing association after being left to live in a two-bedroom house while they desperately wait for a larger home.
Tessa Mee and her husband Martin, of Deansway, Chesham, share their 12 feet wide by 10 feet long bedroom with their 20-month-old daughter and 10 month old twin girls.
Mrs Mee's seven-year-old daughter sleeps in a 10 feet long by six feet wide bedroom in the Paradigm Housing property while the family eat and relax in their 12 feet by 11 feet living room.

The concerned mother said her family is constantly overlooked by Paradigm for a bigger property despite bidding for homes on numerous occasions and fears for their health.
She said: "I am appalled that we have to stay in these conditions just because we haven't been on the bidding system as long as some single mums with one child.
"I am seriously concerned as to what mental damage is being caused to the children being so squashed in this rabbit hutch.
"My poor daughter does not have any room to play and can't use the communal grass as the other residents do not clean up after their dogs.
"Paradigm just do not seem to be bothered about us at all and we hardly hear from them we are unsuccessful. We just have to sit here and wait for something better to come along and keep on living like this.
"It is a total nightmare. We just want the situation sorted out as soon as possible. We don't know what else to do."
Paradigm Housing regional manager Geoff Gigg replies: "Paradigm Housing does not have the power to choose or move its tenants. We are agents for Chiltern District Council's housing register and tenants are selected via Bucks Home Choice.
"In this system, applicants are banded according to their need, and need is assessed using a common allocation policy agreed by Chiltern District Council. When a property becomes available it is advertised and applicants can express an interest via Bucks Home Choice.
"The property is then allocated to the applicant at the front of the list according to the band they are in and the amount of time they have been waiting.
"When a home is allocated, the band of the successful candidate and the time they have waited are reported on the website.
"The reason the Mee family were not successful with any of their bids is that other families in the same band of need had been waiting longer.
"Paradigm Housing is sympathetic to their situation, but has to work with very limited resources and has to ensure that all homes are allocated fairly according to need."

We'd like to hear from you.

hey, I've got loads of kids - can I have a big house for nothing please? I'd go out and work for it but it's much easier to just put my hand out.
