THE PUBLIC is set to be asked for its views on controversial plans to build almost 3,000 homes in the Chiltern District - including 650 in Chesham.
Householders should have their say on a 'Draft Core Strategy document', which addresses government demands for extra housing in the south east, a Chiltern District Council committee is due to recommend to its Cabinet.
The imposed targets require CDC to find sites for 2,900 new homes to be built in the district by 2026.

A TEENAGER has been charged with burglary after a two cars and other valuables were stolen.
The17-year-old boy from Chesham was charged with a burglary at Great Hivings, Chesham, on January 21, in which a laptop, mobile phone and grey Skoda were taken.
He was also charged with stealing a blue Volvo from an address in Leachcroft, Chalfont St Peter, on January 15. The car was subsequently found crashed in Long Bottom Lane, Seer Green, and the boy has also been charged with stealing a mobile phone from it.
The suspect is currently remanded in custody and is due to appear at High Wycombe Youth Court tomorrow (26/1).

A POST Office is set to re-open in Chesham High Street by the end of February, the company has confirmed.
Anger has surrounded the closure of the site in November last year with representatives of Royal Mail failing to attend a public meeting on Wednesday.
But they have contacted town mayor Justine Fulford to tell her that they are planning to restock the closed site from the week commencing February 22 and with a temporary opening expected by at least March 1.
A second planned public meeting on February 1 to discuss more permanent plans is still set to go ahead.

Woman charged with alleged assault

A WOMAN has been charged with allegedly assaulting a police officer last Friday (15/1).
Louise Newtown, 39, of White Lion Road, was arrested following a disturbance in The Broadway, Chesham.
She will appear before Aylesbury Magistrates Court on January 27.

Fury over Post Office snub

POST Office officials pulled out of a public meeting to discuss the future of the Chesham site leaving the 180 people who turned out seething on Wednesday night (20/1).
A representative from the company had agreed to attend the meeting at the town hall on Wednesday night but emailed organiser and town mayor Justine Fulford at 1pm to say the risk of snow meant they could not travel.

DETERMINED Bellingdon residents have vowed to fight to stop their local pub being torn down by property developers.
More than 100 people piled into Bellingdon Village Hall, in Chesham Road, on Friday night (15/1) after a public meeting was called to discuss the future of The Bull just yards down the road.

ANGRY Hawridge residents have lodged a petition to Bucks County Council to try and force their cul-de-sace bumped up the gritting priority list.
Homeowners in Pound Lane were virtually cut-off for two weeks during the Big Freeze with up to six inches of snow coating the streets.
They had to wait for two weeks before council gritters visited the area leaving it treacherous for anyone without a 4x4 to get out safely.

'Don't make it easy' says top cop

'LOCK up your cars' was the message from the head of Chilterns police this week after expensive goods were stolen in a spate of thefts in Chalfont St Giles and Chesham so far in 2010.
Chief Inspector Ian Hunter has seen a three week spree of incidents with Sat-Navs, Ipods and laptops stolen from cars which had been unlocked or with expensive items on display.

ENTERPRISING Hawridge residents refused to be thwarted by the heavy snow in the county last week by holding a snow sculpture competiton.
Nine teams braved the freezing temperatures for the event, organised by Hawridge and Cholesbury Common Preservation Society on Sunday, January 10.
Isobel Clark, of the society, said: "The teams created a wide variety of designs including a cat and mouse, a crocodile, the Loch Ness monster, a boat surrounded by blue water, a teddy-chair, a sofa and TV, a castle and a Henry Moore-like snow maiden."
Winners were Jon and Jon Chaplin with their snow maiden with the pair receiving a bottle of bubbly for their efforts.
