Rotary recognition for School Aid founder
CHESHAM Rotary Club presented an award to a woman whose charity has helped thousands of African schoolchildren get a proper education.
Lady Joy Baker founded School Aid in 1998 and has reached more than 100,000 children in eight African countries supplying books and equipment.
Mrs Baker was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship, named after the founder of Rotary, earlier this month when she paid a special visit to the volunteers working from a warehouse in Beaconsfield.
David Unwin, of the Rotary Club, said: "We sent them a container full of equipment. Juanita de Jager immediately telephoned, surrounded by the chatter of excited children waiting to unload the boxes to say they were "on Cloud Nine."
