Police pledge more officers despite £5m planned cuts
THAMES Valley Police are making £5m worth of cuts next year but still say they will increase the number of officers in the region.
The force is proposing a rise in their council tax precept of 2 per cent which will amount to £3 per year for a Band D household.
If approved by the Thames Valley Police Authority, it will mean they can deploy 73 extra officers, chief constable Sara Thornton said.
"In order to keep the rise down to 2% we have identified over £5 million of efficiency savings. I believe that these will not affect the service delivered to the public," she said.
"I do not plan to reduce police officer or Police Community Support Officer numbers but there will be a reduction in the number of police staff posts.
"Some of these posts are currently vacant and will not be filled. In all other cases where posts are to be cut we will try our best to find alternative roles within Thames Valley Police."
