New chief fire officer appointed
BUCKS Fire and Rescue service has appointed its new chief fire officer who will take up the post in January 2010.
Mark Jones will leave his post as deputy chief fire officer in Essex for the promotion and his appointment was approved by the Bucks & Milton Keynes Fire Authority meeting on Friday (25/9).
Councillor David Rowlands, chairman of the authority, said: "I am delighted that we have secured someone of Mark's calibre to lead us through the challenges and opportunities we face at the dawn of a new decade.
"He brings with him a wealth of national and international knowledge and experience gained over a period of nearly 25 years."
Mr Jones, originally from Moray, in northern Scotland, joined the Grampian Fire Brigade in 1985 where he served in a number of operational firefighting roles before being seconded to Scottish Fire Service Training School in 1989 and Her Majesty's Fire Inspectorate for Scotland in 2001.
He replaces Damien Smith who retired from the position earlier this year after 10 years at the helm.
