Teacher to sign off at college after nearly four decades

AN ART teacher at Chesham Park Community College is laying down his paintbrushes and retiring after 37 years at the school.
Clive Ablett, 59, began his career at Cestreham Boys School in 1972 before it merged with Lowndes Girls's School in 1988 and took up its present form, in Chartridge Lane.
The father-of two, who both attended the college, is coming to the end of his final term and will clock off on his last teaching day on July 17.

He said: "It is a very strange feeling after all these years and there will be a lot of things that I will miss especially the camaraderie of the teachers and students.
"Teaching has changed a lot over the years. When I started it was simply a blackboard and chalk. There were no targets and a lot less paperwork also.
"I must say that I am looking forward to retirement. There is a deck chair in my garden with my name on it and after some relaxation I will then decide what to do."
In 2004 the college was awarded the specialist school status as an arts college specialising in performing arts by the Department for Education and Skills.
Mr Ablett said: "The standard at the school is very good and I am proud of what I am leaving behind."
A retirement party will be held on Saturday and a well wishers book has been set up for current and ex-students and staff to sign by visiting the reception.
