Thieves target Chesham church

A MINISTER whose church became the latest in Chesham to be broken into last week has said he is "gutted" about the burglary.
Revd John Shepherd was speaking after thieves broke into Emmanuel Church, in Broad Street, between 9pm on Wednesday, April 22, and the morning of Thursday, April 23, stealing an overhead projector, CD players, and some LCD monitors.

The burglars gained entry by removing a small window pane at the rear of the building and either climbing through or forcing the door open.
After removing the goods, worth between £2,200 and £2,500, it is believed they fled via a fire exit.
Revd Shepherd said: "The person who runs the morning toddler group came in and realised something was wrong and called the police straight away.
"It appears they got in through the window. It is really disappointing because we hold lots of community events for young people to help give them something to do and we try to be a really welcoming church.
"That is why we are so gutted about this. We announced it during our service on Sunday and there was a really sad reaction.
"We try very hard to be a welcoming, community church and something like this will not stop that."
Brian McNamara, buildings manager at the church, said: "We are obviously covered by insurance but that is not the point. It just feels like such a violation.
"Lots of people look upon church as a sort of home and much in the same way when your home is broken into you feel unsafe and insecure. It is not a nice feeling."
Earlier this year The United Reformed Church, in The Broadway, and Christ Church, in Waterside, were broken into on the same day.
Both suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage with small amounts of cash, projectors, and a laptop also stolen.
Police are appealing for anyone with any information over this latest burglary to call them on 0845 8 505 505 or alternatively to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
