Mosque visit helps to strengthen ties

MEMBERS of St Mary's Church were given a guided tour of Chesham Mosque this week to help cement inter-faith relationships between the two institutions.
As a show of solidarity Chesham Town Councillor Mohammed Bhatti showed the group, led by Revered Simon Cansdale, around the mosque, in Bellingdon Road, on Monday.
The guests were given a tour of the male prayer rooms and the areas where ladies, boys, and girls pray and there was a question and answer session held afterwards.

Mr Bhatti said: "They were very interested to know about Islam and how we pray. It was fantastic and they were very pleased to come along.
"It was really to try and understand both religions and cultures and I am very pleased the churches are very kind to us and we have a good relationship with them."
Rev Cansdale agreed saying: "I have been very friendly with members of the mosque since joining the parish some 10 months ago and some of them even came to my inauguration when I joined.
"So we jumped at the chance to head on down there and get a better understanding about their religion.
"We are obviously very interested in maintaining our good friendships and we really enjoyed the hospitality we received and truly see the links between the church and the mosque as very important for the town."
Chesham Mosque was opened in 2005 after a six year fundraising project for the building.
