Basingstoke - 4th April:
A fine, sunny day saw several of the younger Chiltern athletes open their account for the 2009 season. Connie Lewis posted a solid 2.35.0 in the Under 13 800m which put her second on the day and 11th in the national rankings.

Will Perkin won the Under 11 600m in a PB of 1.52.8 and the 150m in 22.69. Claire Buttivant ran an excellent race to be second in the Under 11 girls 600m in 1.59.17. Amy Buttivant was third in the Under 13 girls shot with 4.74m, and Amy and Orla Fawcett gained their first experience of track and field athletics with good performances in the 70m, 100m, 600m, shot and ball throw.

Welwyn - 10th April

A large Chiltern presence took part in the Herts Phoenix open at Welwyn on Good Friday. The sprinters were out in force. Joel Ramsbottom, who competes for Watford Harriers but is part of the Chiltern sprint training group recorded a PB of 23.0 in the 200m. He also ran 11.6 in the 100m with Under 17 Joel Williams finishing with 11.9. Under 20 Clarice Underwood ran a modest 13.2 by her standards in the 100m and 27.4 in the 200m.

First year Under 17 Sophie East ran 13.8 in her 100m and Under 15 Georgie MacDonald ran a sprint double of 14.1 and 29.3. Joe Stevens ran a double of 12.5 and 25.5 for the Under 17 men. The Under 15 boys contain an abundance of sprinters and distance runners and on Friday Dominic Janson with 13.6 and 27.7 and Brandon Janson with 13.8 and 28.3 both ran well. Alex Russell didn't improve his season's bests with 14.1 and 28.5 and Tom Brady ran a 13.5 100m. Katrina MacDonald had her debut in the Under 13 100m with 17.6.

In the distance events Under 13s Connie Lewis and Rosalind Firth both ran their first 1500m of the season. Both ran conservatively in the difficult drizzly conditions but their times of 5.18.4 and 5.26.6 put them first and fifth respectively in the UK rankings at this early part of the season. In the 800m races Under 15 Katie Royals improved her season's best to 2.48.8 and three Under 13s ran their first ever 800m - Evie Gardner in 2.54.6, Robyn Lisle in 3.02.9 and Amy Buttivant in 3.09.1.

For the boys, Under 15 Alex Johnson ran a solid 4.51.7 in the 1500m and Jack Walker 2.23.3 in the 800m. In the Under 11 age group Will Perkin and Claire Buttivant improved their season's best times in the 600m with 1.51.3 and 1.59.0 respectively. David Willcox and Rachel Padwick also ran in the 600m but did not improve on their previous times

Under 15 thrower Hannah Barnetson opened her season with 19.22m in the discus, 6.94m in the shot and 18.13m in the javelin for a good start.
