College to hold annual elections
DEMOCRACY rules this month at Chesham Park Community College as they prepare to elect their head students for 2009/2010.
All 800 pupils of the school will head to the polls on Friday morning in the main hall and choose their favourite out of a list of candidates who have been selected through a rigorous process.
Phillip Miller, head of sixth form, said: "Before the vote each student has to address a lower school assembly and an upper school assembly this week outlining their policies and aspirations for the year ahead."
Standing for head girl are Pritika Pau, Laura Doody, Georgina Cope, Sophie Gilbert, and Falak Ali, and standing for head boy are Haydn Gilbert, Jamie Tiplady, Matthew Reynolds, Edward Powis-Brown and Laurence Bevan.
The runners up will automatically be offered the position of deputy head boy and girl.
Mr Miller said: "This is a set of very impressive young people standing for a very responsible position. Their names will be engraved on the appropriate plaques in our main hall for all to see for many years to come."
The winners their first duty is to compere the upcoming Evening of Excellence at the Elgiva Theatre on June 30.
