THE world's media will hit Chesham this summer as the 64 best pinball players compete in the World Pinball Championships - an event last year held amid the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas.
Nick Bennett, of Grove Lane, has secured the international event for the town which will be played in an outbuilding of his home and he is expecting fans from across the globe to head to the town for the three-day event between July 31 and August 2.
The championships are the pinnacle of the pinball world with the players invited from all over the world including the UK, US, Japan, Germany, Australia, Canada, and Scandinavia to compete for the $15,000 prize fund.
A MINISTER whose church became the latest in Chesham to be broken into last week has said he is "gutted" about the burglary.
Revd John Shepherd was speaking after thieves broke into Emmanuel Church, in Broad Street, between 9pm on Wednesday, April 22, and the morning of Thursday, April 23, stealing an overhead projector, CD players, and some LCD monitors.
A VARIETY of activities will take place to help officially open the Open Air Pool for the summer this weekend.
On Saturday, a selection of sports including basketball, netball and football will be on offer in taster sessions at the complex, in Moor Road.

THE Chess Male Voice Choir has been recognised for its charity work in the community by receiving a three year grant from the Buckinghamshire Foundation.
A first cheque of £1,000 was presented to chairman Mike Armstrong at their charity concert held at Amersham Free Church on Saturday raising funds for Heritage House School.
The money will go a long way towards freeing the choir from the pressures of running costs and enable it to devote more time to helping the community.

If wet on Saturday it will be held between the same times on Bank Holiday Monday.

A NUMBER of treasured photographs found in Chesham High Street have been handed in to the Bucks Examiner.
The ten photographs include a father with his young baby, a young child dressed in a Santa outfit with a dog, and pictures of what appear to be proud grandparents holding the baby in hospital.

A DECISION on the Travelodge planning application in Chesham is moving ever closer after an appeal over the decision to reject the plans began this week.
Plans to build a £10m, 70-room, five-storey hotel in Station Road were turned down by Chiltern District Council last year.
Representatives from the council's planning department and the developer attended a public inquiry on Tuesday to debate parking and congestion issues.
The final decision will rest with a government planning inspector.
MEMBERS of St Mary's Church were given a guided tour of Chesham Mosque this week to help cement inter-faith relationships between the two institutions.
As a show of solidarity Chesham Town Councillor Mohammed Bhatti showed the group, led by Revered Simon Cansdale, around the mosque, in Bellingdon Road, on Monday.
The guests were given a tour of the male prayer rooms and the areas where ladies, boys, and girls pray and there was a question and answer session held afterwards.
DEMOCRACY rules this month at Chesham Park Community College as they prepare to elect their head students for 2009/2010.
All 800 pupils of the school will head to the polls on Friday morning in the main hall and choose their favourite out of a list of candidates who have been selected through a rigorous process.
FERRARI'S in all different colours caused quite a stir in Chesham when member of an exclusive club visited a business in the town.
Tyre and wheel installation facility Blackboots.co.uk and Wheels-inmotion#, based in Moor Road and opened in 2008, saw 30 members of the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain parade their pride and joys through the town and to their garage.
A crowd of around 60 people were soon gathered around the vehicles talking to their owners who were more than happy to show off their super cars earlier this month.
