Death of long-standing Chesham performer

23172815 Eileen-Taylor.jpgA stalwart of Chesham's musical theatre Eileen Taylor has died.
Eileen Taylor joined Chesham Amateur Operatic Society in 1951 as a chorus member in The Gondoliers.
That was the first full show to be staged after the war and at the time of her death 58 years later, she was the sole surviving active member.
Eileen remained in the chorus until the mid-sixties when her pure soprano voice was then heard in many leading roles.

In 1967 the company was renamed Chesham Light Opera Company and Eileen continued to be involved taking many character parts.
Probably her greatest role was as Anna Glavari in The Merry Widow. In the early 1970s the highly successful Old Time Music Hall began and again Eileen was a star performer for many years.
Her last stage appearance was as the regal Queen of Transylvania, a brief cameo role in My Fair Lady in 2006.
Apart from her stage work Eileen worked unceasingly behind the scenes as prompt, front of house manager, tea lady and most recently will be remembered by the people of Chesham as a very efficient Ticket Secretary.
Her daughter Alison Taylor said: "Her unfailing good humour and enthusiasm will be sadly missed."
Eileen's family have also appeared on stage with her. Her son Steve first appeared aged 12 and then went on to become Stage Manager and is currently Chesham Musical Theatre Company's Treasurer. Daughter Alison and granddaughter Nicola have also both appeared on stage on a number of occasions. Her husband Vic was her staunchest supporter and always by her side at front of house.

We'd like to hear from you.
