My Town: Jason Hollier
Jason Hollier, 39, of Fullers Close, has lived in Chesham all of his life. The father to Jessica, 14, Niran, 11, and Luke, three, is married to Puntip, and works as a salesman and estimator at Summerling Carpets. He is also youth leader at Chesham Methodist Church.
Q: Do you like Chesham?
A: Yes I really love this town. I feel safe here and it's lovely with the countryside. I am a great walker and I love the surrounding Chiltern Hills. The fact you are on the end of the Metropolitan line makes it easy to get to London or the bigger towns.
Q: What could be improved in Chesham?
A: The roads. I think the town centre in some ways. It needs a Marks & Spencer. Obviously the surrounding areas have a bit of wealth, around here if we had a bigger store it would attract people and some small businesses to come into the town centre as well. At the same time with the way the economy is a budget supermarket such as Lidl or Aldi would help a lot of people. The way it is we have a lot of charity shops, which is good, and lots of opticians. A bit of diversity is needed.
Q: Is there a lot for you to do with your family in Chesham?
A: They belong to a drama group here, the Chesham Methodist players and there's a youth club being set up at the church hall. We started doing it once a month and now it is going to be every week. My daughter goes to ballet at Newtown School and does tap dancing and my son plays football and with the park it is great.
Q: How does Chesham compare to other places?
A: I think it compares well. Each town has it's pros and cons. I think it's in a good location. The old part of Chesham has lovely buildings with a lot of character and Pednor is just amazing - you feel like you are on holiday there.
I did quite a bit of travelling, which was how I met my wife, around Australia and the Far East. Sometimes in Australia I felt I could live there but although I hear pessimistic reports, I think England is a lovely place.
Q: What would you improve about Chesham?
A: Obviously the health centre is going on and has been boarded up - this will be great when it's finished. It would be lovely to have something recreational like a bowling alley. Sometimes these are reserved for bigger towns like Watford and Hemel Hempstead. What I would love to see is a place where teenagers can do live bands, a specific building where there are live bands for youngsters. I think that would be great.
