Shop Talk: Alcom Computing

Chesham-Shop-Talk-IT.jpgJonathan Vasbenter, 27, from Stokenchurch, works as a support engineer at Alcom Computing, based in Chesham. He talked to us about business life in the town and how the credit crunch is affecting morale at this time of economic downturn.

Q: What are the key areas of the company's business?
A:
We provide network services and have contracts with some well known Chesham companies. We sell computers and provide spares. We offer a service at home, in addition.
The most common problems we encounter, probably, involve hard disk faults. This usually involves about an hour and a half of work.

Q: How is the credit crisis affecting the company?
A:
Everyone is watching the purse strings and considering spending priorities.
But this week we have been very busy.
It can change, though, and we do not have a lot in the diary for next week at this moment in time.
The company is owned by Aylesbury-based Abraham Al Mosawi (correct), who is a nice man.

Q What do you like about Chesham?
A:
The friendliness of the people. It is a nice town.
The atmosphere on the High Street seems alright.
But there is no Burtons or River Island in Chesham.

Q: What are Alcom's plans for the future?
A:
We would like to expand and grow and to appoint a dedicated sales person.
But we will have to wait for the upturn before being able to do that.
We will need to get some more customers.
We would have to have the means to pay someone. Nobody, after all, can run on fresh air

Q: What are the downsides to life in Chesham?
A:
There are not really any but I should add that the car parking here is very expensive.

We'd like to hear from you.
