My Town: Naomi Williams

Chesham-Naomi-Williams.jpgEvery week our reporters hit the streets to find out what it is like to live in one of our towns or villages.
This week we caught up with Naomi Williams, 17, is head girl at Chesham Park Community College.
She has lived in Newtown, Chesham, all her life.

Q: Do you like living in Chesham?
A:
Yes I think it is a nice area, it's not too busy. It has nice countryside surrounding it. All of my friends are around here and I can walk everywhere in town from where I live so that's quite good. It's friendly. I think everyone knows each other in school. It's a nice community, you can smile at people you see regularly.

Q: Is there a lot to do for young people in Chesham?
A:
There's quite a lot to do. I go to Maggie Monks ballet school at St Mary's Church, which is good. There are also some other things. There's the Elgiva, where I do some shows. Every two years I do a show with 'Ballet Rouge' - a Welsh and Russian ballet and they get the children from Maggie Monks' involved. I think older people tend to use the Elgiva more but they do have good movies which have just come out on there. In Chesham Bois there's also ballroom dancing so there's a range of dancing to do.

Q: Do you see yourself living in Chesham in the future?
A:
I am going on to study an art and design foundation course at the Solent University at Southampton so it depends how I feel after that. It's not that I want to move away, I just want to grow up. It's quite a small town and there's not as much to do as in other places such as Southampton. I do like living with my mum and family here.

Q: In your opinion are there many opportunities for people like you in Chesham?
A:
The sort of job I would like is as a costume and set designer. I would say there's not as many opportunities in Chesham in that field because it's quite small. I know people doing electrical engineering and they have set up businesses here.

Q: Do you think Chesham is a safe place?
A:
I think it is relatively safe, I feel safe. I can walk around at night and not have to worry but obviously you have to be careful . There's quite a safe feeling here and atmosphere. There's some trouble in Pond Park but I don't think it is as bad as some places. You don't have much knife and gun crime.

Keep your eyes peeled for our reporters and you could be next to feature in our My Town column.

We'd like to hear from you.
