Teen does his bit for community spirit

Chesham-Arfan.jpgOne teenager is showing other youngsters there is plenty to do in the area as long as they know where to find it.
Arfan Bhatti is finishing off the half term with an action packed day, show-casing all the groups in the area in an attempt to get other youths to stop saying there is nothing to do.
The 17-year-old Ashlyns student knows first hand what goes on in Chesham because he is a member of many groups, including the boxing club, Way In, the youth council and the youth cabinet.

He said: "I want to link all these groups together.
"Being a teenager myself I wanted to do it because I know what they want."
At the event tomorrow there will be representatives from most sporting clubs, including boxing and netball, Nexus, the police, drugs awareness groups and the council.
Providing a bit of glamour for the occasion will be Sound Studio, which will have DJ-ing equipment to record music, and there will supercars on display.
The event is aimed at 11 to 19-year-olds and Arfan is hoping it will help people to realise not only what hobbies they can take up but guide them in their careers. His involvement in the boxing club has given him the desire to make it professionally and his aim is to be ready for the 2012 Olympics.
His aim is to make this a showcase event which will be used again not only in Chesham but across the country.
He said: "I have been travelling to different places and this is going to be a foundation to build on."
Part of his inspiration for wanting to organise an event like this has come from his father, Chesham and Chiltern District Councillor Mohammed Bhatti.
Arfan, who lives in Landsdowne Road, said: "I saw that they do a lot of events for the older generation and I wanted to organise the same but for younger people."
The event is free with refreshments provided at Chesham Park Community College in Chartridge Lane from noon to 6pm on Friday.

We'd like to hear from you.
