Shop Watch to tackle crime in Chesham

Posted by Greg Burns on Oct 22, 08 12:04 PM in People

A new scheme is being launched in Chesham to cut down on crime in the town centre.
Called Shop Watch, the scheme is being established by Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and the idea gets the go ahead on Monday, November 10.
This new initiative, which will involve town centre traders, will allow the sharing of specific and select information to deter theft and fraud.
It will also aim at discouraging anti-social behaviour as well as promoting the idea of the High Street as a safe haven.

A crime reduction seminar will be staged, as a preliminary to the launch of the project, on Monday, November 10, between 11am and 2pm, at the Cafe Nero in The Broadway.
There will be free goodies and publicity material plus a chance to meet the team driving this initiative forward in the months to come.
Shop Watch is run through the Neighbourhood Watch Office at Amersham Police Station. A system called Ring Master is used to process messages from a database.
PCSO Mike Shepherd, a member of the team who is based at Chesham Police Station, in Broad Street, said: "This has been a long time in the planning stages and it is great to see it finally get off the ground.
"With the busy Christmas period coming, the town centre neighbourhood team are working hard to keep the streets safe.
"With 60 more shops and businesses signing up to this popular scheme, we are hoping to see a great success."
Another team member, PCSO Kimberley Goode, added: "I think it is vital that we make sure the information the public are giving us is passed onto the right people, so we can work together to prevent crime occurring."
Anyone wishing to sign their business up in support of the scheme should contact the team via the following number: 0845 8505 505.
